The Fifth International Ophthalmological Symposium with the title “Cornea, Eye Surface and Refractive Surgery”, which took place on June 21 and 22, in Sarajevo as part of the 16th Day of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian-American Academy of Sciences and Arts (BHAAAS) has ended.
The symposium included four expert panels with presentations and discussions on the most advanced therapeutic approaches in the field of the anterior segment of the eye, with an emphasis on the eye surface, dry eye, eye surface tumors, corneal diseases, corneal transplantation, refractive surgery (laser diopter correction and refractive lens replacement surgery) and an educational session for young ophthalmologists and residents (YO).
Dr. Koray Gumus from Turkish Ophthlmology Association, together with Dr. Igor Knezović from Croatia, were trainers at a workshop on corneal topography/tomography with a focus on basic corneal map readings, corneal ectasias and IOL optimization. The workshop was followed by training on state-of-the-art equipment.
The ophthalmology programs within the BHAAAS Days provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge, clinical experiences and technologies among experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, 6 speakers from Turkey (TOA), Ireland, Switzerland, Norway, Macedonia, Montenegro and the wider international context with over 40 lectures.
In addition to professional development, the goal is also to strengthen professional ties, academic initiatives and joint research projects.
